The Rubik's Cube was invented on 19 May 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and architect Ernő Rubik.

It was originally called the Magic Cube (Rubik's is way better) and there are apparently 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible configurations of its sides - although we haven't tested that, understandably.

The fastest human to have solved the Cube is 18-year-old Mats Valk from the Netherlands, who can solve a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube in 5.55 seconds.

But to celebrate this special birthday, let's watch a robot made of lego smash that record in March this year and solve the puzzle in a mindblowingly fast 3.253 seconds.
