Genuine artificial intelligence is capable of coming up with some pretty funny answers to questions you ask of it, but when it comes to biting wit, there's no real match for Siri's put-downs.
The iPhone's virtual assistant has a long history of dispensing sharp one-liners, and even though it's not a demonstration of real AI at work - since Siri's repartee is actually just scripted by Apple's writers and constructed from recordings by paid voice actors - we still love it, because every little snarky comment or response is like an Easter egg hidden inside your phone just waiting to be found.
The latest Siri discovery uncovered by Twitter users this week (and first spotted by Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul) is when you ask the virtual assistant to calculate some impossible mathematics. When asked, "What is zero divided by zero?", a clearly unimpressed Siri will respond with the following:
"Imagine that you have zero cookies and you split them evenly among zero friends. How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn't make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends."
Ouch! Next time we'll know better than to trouble Siri with silly questions! (No we won't.)
