Starre Vartan is a science journalist and author of The Stronger Sex: What Science Tells Us About the Power of the Female Body (Seal Press/Hachette, 2025), a Library Journal “Best Science Book of 2025.” She’s widely published and her work has been translated into Arabic, Spanish, Dutch, German, and Chinese, and featured in Best Australian Science Writing 2026.

She holds a BS in Geology from Syracuse University and an MFA in nonfiction writing from Columbia University. Her journalism focuses on health, medicine, biotech, anthropology, animals, and environment (wherever bodies and the world interact), and she’s also published fiction and memoir. She’s at work on her next book about the prehistory of female bodies, due out in 2028.
